CHINA MARKET ENTRY

Gramercy is available to work with Client's on their China strategy on an ongoing basis for a fixed monthly retainer and expenses or on a project basis to deliver specific outcomes in the market. A common way for Clients to get started, who are new to the market, is to engage Gramercy to conduct a China Market Entry Assessment and develop a China Market Entry Strategy. This is also a useful approach for Client's who already have operations or relationships in China but need to review these and review their strategy.
The typical process Gramercy employs in developing a China Market Entry Strategy is as follows;

PHASE ONE
The Gramercy team develops a thorough understanding of the Client's products and services. This involves holding a series of workshops at which we assemble our team at the Client's home office and work with key Client personnel to become well versed in the Client's business, goals, strengths and weaknesses.

We then conduct market research in China to understand the opportunity in the Client's particular market sector and in particular assess the activity of their competition, both other market entrants and local Chinese competition. Gramercy also provides its own assessment of the Client's market readiness and propensity for success in China based on the considerable experience and insight of our Principals. Next we talk to our close network of key partners in China and get some preliminary feedback regarding the Client, its market and opportunities in China.

After completing the Phase One activities we develop a Preliminary Strategy for review and refinement with the client.

PHASE TWO
During Phase Two we road test the Preliminary Strategy on the ground with potential partners, customers, distributors, licensees, manufacturers etc. This involves key Client executives spending time in China with us visiting potential partners and presenting the opportunity.

We then develop the final strategy report which includes an assessment of the market opportunity and the Client's readiness and the competitive and market landscape. We also work with the client to develop a detailed budget for entering and supporting a China operation or market and detailed recommendations regarding actions, legal structure and systems or personnel requirements required at the home office to support the market entry. We will also assist in the development of key measurement points/KPIs for the market to enable ongoing assessment and re-evaluation.

An important part of each strategy is to address the legal structure to be used for market entry and the relative merits of operating a joint stock company, a registered branch or a Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise (WFOE) and whether the special tax regions are of any operational benefit etc.

PHASE THREE
We work with the client to develop an appropriate delivery of the Strategy Report including providing Board or Shareholder presentations as required and creating investor/shareholder versions of the report.

Subsequent to the completion and delivery of the China Market Entry Strategy Report a Client may retain Gramercy to assist in executing the proposed strategy assuming that our recommendation is to proceed with market entry/ remain in the market. In many cases our advice may be to not proceed in China at the current point of time and look at alternative beachheads in the Greater China area or simply wait till definable events occur in the market.
